A Story

Here we are beginning a new adventure

John has been involved with pottery for as long as I can remember. When John was about 10 years old we started learning about and employing Sensory Integration techniques. The two of us moved to Phoenix as I attempted to get him into Lorna Kings’ The Children’s Center for Neuro-developmental Studies, CNS which is now The Children’s Center in Glendale, AZ. The city decided John was too dangerous and put him into the Latch School System, a behavioral based school. When he acted out, there were 4 people, 1 on each limb to transport him to safety of a chill-out room. Slowly John learned to control his emotions and actions. After two years at Latch the city finally gave in and we enrolled him at CNS for some serious Sensory Integration.

He is now 37. He has a pretty good life and seems to manage with his just enough communication. Him being non-verbal, or more specifically, his mouth doesn’t work as the connection to his brain is somehow scrambled. Schools and staff started to notice his connection with pottery and we saw how much he enjoyed this very sensory activity. He goes once a week to the ceramics studio and keeps making more and more pieces and getting them to look more and more astoundingly beautiful. And that’s what is going on here, showing off John’s work.

So here we are with this assortment of a lot of his creations.

Our goal:

  • Sell his stuff (um, Artwork) for some kind of financial stability

  • Work with others on the Autism spectrum to join in creative activities

  • Give John a sense of accomplishment

  • Form a Spectrum ceramics group

  • Make a small ceramics studio at his Day-hab and get his local group involved

This is taking some time but the website seemed a natural fit and so here it is
